NJ Business Registration Workshop

Need help registering your business?

The NJSBDC at Rutgers-Newark can help. This is a virtual one-on-one session held via Zoom Video Conferencing and by appointment only. A Business Counselor will in real-time guide you through the process of registering your business online with state of New Jersey, Register with the NJ Division of Revenue and Taxation and obtaining a Federal Employer Identification Number with the IRS. In order to participate you must have the following requirements:

• You have decided on your legal structure of business: http://www.nj.gov/njbusiness/starting/basics/business_basics.shtml
• Have the Name for your business: http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/revenue/checkbusiness.shtml
• Have an Alternate Business name in case the first is not available
• Have all contact and personal information including social security numberS, date of birth, addresses and phone numbers of ALL members that would be registered with the business.
• Must have a credit or debit card to pay the $125 State of NJ filling fee (plus $3.50 convenience fee): http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/revenue/gettingregistered.shtml
• Have access to an email to have your Federal Employee Identification Number (FEIN) letter and registration documents sent to.

At the end of the session, all registration documents will be emailed. You will be able to print a copy of all documents once they have been emailed to you.

Equipment & Access Information

This consultation will be done via the Zoom Video Conferencing platform. Participants should ensure that they have access to a desktop or laptop with Internet. Upon making your appointment you will be given a link to access the platform on the day of your appointment. Please save and bookmark this email for easy reference on the day of your appointment. As the process takes some time, please try to access the Zoom Platform at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment. This will allow you to download the software and ensure that your microphone and/or video camera are working correctly.
