The New Jersey Small Business Development Center at Brookdale Community College will hosts its seventh annual Women Entrepreneurs Rock.

As with most things in 2020, the format of this signature event will change, but the goal of “Women Entrepreneurs Rock” (also known as WeRock) to facilitate a dialogue about topics relevant to women in business is more relevant than ever. For the last six years, this has been a not-to-be-missed fall event at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park attended by over 400 women from around the state. This year the NJSBDC is planning a series of virtual events through the fall and winter to fully address women business owners’ needs and to showcase successful role models in a variety of business sectors.

Today, four out of every 10 businesses in the United States are women-owned for a total of more than 12 million businesses. Unfortunately, in the entrepreneurial world, many women already start a step (or two) behind men. Lack of funding, lack of confidence and market saturation have presented significant challenges for women in business, all of which are compounded by the current pandemic and economic crisis.

“Women entrepreneurs have made tremendous progress and we are determined not to let this pandemic set them back,” said Jackeline Mejias-Fuertes, director of the NJSBDC at Brookdale Community College. “In addition to our centerpiece event on November 12, we will host a series of virtual events exploring areas critical to a woman entrepreneur’s success.”
